Fireflies are a sure sign of summer and are best appreciated in our wonderful open spaces! Join us to celebrate fireflies and the insects and wild animals that live at Terhune Orchards at our annual Firefly Festival Sunday, June 24, from 4 to 9 p.m.

In celebration of the small creatures that electrify our summer nights, come out to the farm and enjoy an evening of nature, music, wagon rides, outdoor fun and, of course, the whole farm for firefly hunting.   Come sit on the grass and enjoy music while we watch the fireflies come out and flicker about!

All sorts of activities will be available for children, including the chance to make their own firefly wings and antennas, plus bug boxes. Children will hear stories about fireflies, play games and catch fireflies.

Grammy Award Winner Miss Amy and her band will entertain the crowd and Schafer’s Gymnastics will demonstrate the “art of flying.”

Food will be for sale in Pam’s Firefly Tent, including grilled chicken, hot dogs, corn on the cob, pie, apple cider, doughnuts, cookies and apples.

Admission to the festival is free; there is a $5 charge for craft activities. Plenty of parking is available at the farm, which is located at 330 Cold Soil Rd. in Lawrence.
