N.J. Events Announced for Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014

Gov. Chris Christie and the National Football League today announced a series of activities and events that will call New Jersey home when the Super Bowl visits the region in 2014.  

Key occasions timed to both the ceremonial start and end of Super Bowl Week will take place in New Jersey, with many additional activities scheduled to occur in the state all throughout the week.  

“Our region’s first Super Bowl is a little more than one year away, and in New Jersey, the countdown has officially begun,” said Gov. Christie. “Hosting the big game on Feb. 2 and its many celebratory lead-up events during Super Bowl Week is a major win for the state, its tourism and economic developments.”  

“We appreciate Gov. Christie’s leadership and commitment to the Super Bowl,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “We look forward to working closely with the state to help present a memorable week for our fans, teams, and partners and media from around the world.”

The first official public event of Super Bowl Week – Media Day, to feature players of both participating teams – will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, on Tuesday, Jan. 28. This will mark the first time that the event will be held outside of the game’s host venue, or the site of the Super Bowl.

“In late January and early February, the eyes of the world will be on MetLife Stadium and the surrounding area,” said NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee President and CEO Al Kelly. “With its energy and passion, New Jersey is an ideal location to stage a Super Bowl and its many events, and we look forward to continuing to make history in the state.”

In addition, New Jersey will host the two competing teams, as both will lodge at hotels in the state during their extended stay in the area. The teams will also practice in New Jersey – with the NFC team utilizing the Timex Center and the AFC the Atlantic Health Facility at Florham Park.

Another mainstay Super Bowl event, the NFL’s Tailgate Party, which is held during the final hours leading up to game time, will take place at the Grandstand at the Meadowlands Racetrack, on Sunday, Feb. 2.

“We are thrilled that visitors to the region will have an opportunity to experience multiple landmarks in New Jersey, beginning with MetLife Stadium, and now extending to the Prudential Center and the Meadowlands Racetrack,” said Woody Johnson, Co-Chairman of the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee. “We are also fortunate to have the players lodging and practicing in New Jersey, which allows their excitement and energy to be felt in the area throughout the entire week.”

“Each and every year, the events surrounding the Super Bowl become bigger and better,” said Jonathan Tisch, Co-Chairman of the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee. “In 2014, the week-long celebration will begin and end in New Jersey, and our events line-up is sure to bring an immeasurable sense of spirit and exhilaration to the area, and guarantee an unforgettable experience for all.”

The NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee’s pre-game party will be held in New Jersey, as will the postgame parties for both participating teams, all at venues to be announced.

The New York/New Jersey Super Bowl will be played at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2, 2014.
