Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Rider University.
Actor and activist Rosario Dawson, who displayed her musical talent in the film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical Rent, will present the keynote address at Rider University’s National Campus Sustainability Day celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Cavalla Room.
The event is free and open to the public. Rider is located at 2083 Lawrence Rd. (Route 206 South), in Lawrence Township.
Dawson, who also starred in such major motion pictures as Men in Black II, 25th Hour, The Zookeeper and Unstoppable, will speak on environmental issues, including the hydraulic fracturing process of natural gas extraction, or “fracking,” as well as the importance of voting.
In 2004, Dawson cofounded Voto Latino, a nonpartisan organization that works to promote an enfranchised America by harnessing the power of celebrity voices, the latest technology and American youth.
She serves on the board of directors for V-Day and Scenarios USA, and has also lent her support to Amnesty International, Oxfam, the ONE Campaign, Global Cool, and Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).
