Lawrence Schools Summer Facilities Project Provides Green Savings

Green measures provide savings for taxpayers during the summer months at Lawrence schools.

School may be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean there’s not much going on within the Lawrence Township Public Schools.

The Facilities Department has been quite busy with a multitude of projects, some maintenance and some new, as well as the routine cleaning and organizing that takes place in summer.  The Department has done some of the projects while some were contracted to outside agencies.

The projects include installing motion detectors and light retrofits in every school.  Thanks to the motion detectors, the schools won’t consume energy when they don’t need it.  Additionally the new lights are lower-energy consuming lights.

PSE&G paid for 80 percent of the project and 20 percent was covered by funds in the district budget via Lawrence taxpayers.  With the savings realized by this efficiency, the total cost of the district’s share will be saved in less than two years.
