Lawrence Arts Council Will Celebrate 40th Anniversary

The celebration to be held on May 1 will also serve as the opening of the council's annual art show.

The Lawrence Arts Council will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special gathering on Sunday, May 1, that will also serve as the opening of the council’s annual art show.

The celebration – which is open and free to the public – will take place that day from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lawrence Township headquarters of the Mercer County Library at 2751 Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1) at the corner of Darrah Lane.

During the celebration, Linda Levy, an author who lives in Lawrence, will speak about the process of writing a book, while fellow township resident and artist Bill Plank will present a lecture and demonstration about landscape painting. Throughout the afternoon, students from Lawrence High School will provide entertainment in the form of jazz music.

Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of all the presentations.

The art show will run at the library through the month of May.

Lawrence Arts Council has been supporting art, music, drama and literature in Lawrence Township since 1971 through a variety of ways, such as annual scholarships for Lawrence High School students, music and art programs at township schools, the Mercer County Teen Arts Festival, annual craft shows and trips to cultural and historical sites.

Most recently, the arts council awarded grants to support the , an artists’ cooperative of local talent.
