Government and the Arts Highlights for Feb. 7-13

What follows is a digest of activities, events and political discussions that will occur during the week of Feb. 7-13.

Monday

State Senate hearing on Assisted Living residents’ bill of rights, Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee,  1 p.m., State House Annex. Bill S2458 would require assisted living facilities and comprehensive personal care homes to distribute the statement of resident rights to each resident, and post it in a conspicuous, public place in the facility or home, as applicable. In addition, the bill requires providers to inform each resident, the resident’s family member, and the resident’s legally appointed guardian, if applicable, of the resident’s rights, provide explanations if needed, and ensure that each resident, or the resident’s legally appointed guardian, as applicable, signs a copy of statement of rights.

Tuesday

Veterans information tables at Quaker Bridge Mall, Route 1, Lawrence, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Feb. 8-10. The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will be bringing benefit information to “those who served” as part of the Veterans Outreach Program.

Lawrence Township Growth & Development Committee and Lawrence Township Public Safety Committee both meet at 7:30 p.m. at Lawrence Township Municipal Building, 2207 Lawrence Rd.

Mercer County budget presentation, 6:30 p.m., McDade Administration Building, 640 S. Broad St., Trenton. County Executive Brian M. Hughes will present an overview of the proposed 2011 Mercer County budget.

Wednesday

Lecture by designer Jonathan Adler, Princeton Library, Witherspoon Street, Princeton, 4 p.m. The New Jersey-born interior designer, who has appeared on Bravo, will discuss his life, career and theories about design.

State Apportionment Commission will meet to take testimony from the public on the redrawing of legislative boundaries, 6 p.m., 14th Floor Conference Center, 60 W. Market St. (Leroy Smith Public Safety Building), Newark.

Discussion of African-American literature with author Lawrence P. Jackson, Princeton Library, Witherspoon Street, Princeton, 7:30 p.m. Jackson will discuss his book, The Indignant Generation, about “the neglected but essential period of African American literature between the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights era.”

Thursday

Indoor Farmers Market, Community Room, Princeton Library, Witherspoon Street, Princeton, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Locally made products such as artisanal cheeses, honey, and selected produce available at the library.

Friday

American standards in concert, Cranbury Coffee House, Fellowship Hall, First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, 22 S. Main St., Cranbury, 7 p.m. "An Evening of American Songbook Favorites and Big Band Music" features local artists Paige Stewart and The Jack Jonah Band. Adults, $8. Children 12 and under, $5.

The Wedding Singer, at Mercer County Community College, Old Trenton Road, West Windsor, 7:30 p.m. Additional performances Feb. 12, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow Feb. 11 performance.
