Summer Solstice

The Lawrence Nature Center is celebrating this year the Summer Solstice with the presentation of Ange Chianese and his Drum Circle.

Mr. Chainese has worn many hats. He was a language teacher, served as a Navy Translator during the Vietnam War, and is the founder of the “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, LLC  –Entertainers and Singing Telegram Company” in 1980 in Trenton. Mr. Chainese is
fascinated with unusual instruments and says that “everyone can make music.”

Many  years ago he attended a workshop called Music for People. He began exploring all types of percussive instruments: drums of all shapes and sizes, gongs, tambourines, rain sticks, bells, and shakers.

People around the world observe spiritual and religious seasonal days of celebration during the month of June. These religious holy days are linked somehow to the summer solstice, typically June 21 in the Northern hemisphere, when the days are longest and the
nights are shortest. And it has become the official 1st day of summer. “Solstice” is derived from two Latin words: “sol” meaning sun” and “sistere,” meaning: “stand still.”

This program is free to the public. Due to the popularity of this program, reservation is recommended by calling the Lawrence Township Recreation Department at [609] 844-7067.
