Need a Hair Cut? Shave Your Head to Support Childhood Cancer Research

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Amalfi’s restaurant in Lawrence Township on Saturday, March 16, where more than 138 people will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to conquer childhood cancers!

Why all the shaved heads?

Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.

This will be Colonial Valley Chiropractic’s sixth year organizing the Lawrenceville event.  Last year there were 136 men, women and children who shaved their heads. They have raised a total of $384,997.36 for childhood cancer research since they started.

This year St Baldrick's will be honoring two children from our community. Their families have written their story and given permission to St Baldrick's to use their stories to raise awareness for this wonderful charity.

Aaron is a 15-year-old Lawrence Township resident who has participated in the annual Lawrenceville St. Baldrick’s event since 2009.  He was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin Burkitt’s Lymphoma. He plans on participating and shaving his head this year as well, however if he doesn’t have any hair to shave, his dad would be honored to be his “substitute” shavee.

Samara is a wonderfully spirited 6-year-old girl who lives in Chesterfield.   Samara has a rare childhood cancer and is undergoing rigorous chemotherapy. Despite the challenges she's faced since March 2012, Samara remains cheerful and continues to have a smile for everyone she meets.
