MCCC Music Students to Perform Winter Concerts Dec. 10 and 11

The community is invited to enjoy two festive holiday-themed concerts, to be presented by Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Music students in December.  Both concerts are free and open to the public, and will take place at Kelsey Theatre, located on the college’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

The MCCC Chorus, directed by Timothy Smith, will present its winter concert, “Songs of the Season,” on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.  The group will perform a variety of works celebrating the holiday season by composers including Mel Torme, John Rutter, Harold Darke and Alfred Burt.  The program will also include vocal solos by several music majors.

The MCCC Jazz Band, directed by Professor James Kelly, will present its Winter Concert celebrating America’s classic musical art form on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m.  The varied and exciting program for this year’s concert includes Latin, swing and bebop classics by John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, and Thelonious Monk, among others.  The seasonal favorite “Baby It’s Cold Outside” will feature two top student vocalists.  All selections will feature standout improvisations by jazz students, who will perform in small groups as well as in the full band.
