Rock ’n Roll is here to stay! Pink poodle skirts, greased hair and black leather jackets are back in style on the big screen when Theater To Go presents a sing-along of the fun-loving 1950s in the classic film “Grease!” at Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre. This interactive presentation will take place on Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Audience members are invited to dress ’50s style as Theater To Go’s master of ceremonies leads several participation activities before the start of the film, including games, a costume contest and trivia – complete with prizes! Ticket prices include an audience participation kit with items to be used throughout the movie, such as kazoos, bubbles and noise makers.
Starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, “Grease!” is a 1978 musical about two lovers in a 1950s high school that come from very different backgrounds. Danny and Sandy meet and fall in love over the summer, but are surprised to see each other back at school that fall. Danny is Mr. Tough Guy around his friends, but Sandy knows his softer side that he wants to keep well hidden from his peers. Will Danny risk his reputation so he can be with Sandy?
Successful both critically and at the box office, “Grease!” had the second best-selling soundtrack album when it premiered in 1978. With music that is easy to sing to and hard to forget, audiences will enjoy singing along with the T-Birds and the Pink Ladies to “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin” “You’re the One That I Want” and many others, as the words are projected on the film screen. According to the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, “‘Grease!’ is an energetic musical with infectiously catchy songs and an ode to young love that never gets old.”
Based in Lawrenceville, Theater To Go is a full-service theatrical production company. Known for murder mysteries and comedy shows, the company’s performances emphasize improvisation and audience participation. This will be its second interactive film presentation at Kelsey.
