Lawrence Township’s second annual "Red, White and Bang" Kids Triathlon” – held on Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 5) at the Lawrenceville Swim Association on Craven Lane – was a tremendous success. Steve Groeger, superintendent of the township’s recreation department, said 116 of the 118 children who registered for the event took part, and all finished the race. While the recreation department is still waiting on some bills and sponsorship money to come it, Groeger said “it looks like we will net about $3,000.” That money will be used to help fund the township's 4th of July fireworks show next year…
Magician and ventriloquist Jeff Blum performed before a room packed with children and their parents at the Lawrence Township headquarters branch of the Mercer County Library on Wednesday, June 29. As can be seen in the photos and videos above, members of the audience had lots of fun assisting Blum with many of his magic tricks. Popular musician Mr. Ray once again visited the Lawrence Township headquarters branch of the Mercer County Library to perform a concert for children on Tuesday, June 28. As can be seen from the photos and videos above, the children had a blast and even helped sing some of the songs. On Friday morning (June 3), just hours before they attend their senior prom, students from Lawrence High School assembled outside the school to watch a realistic recreation of a fatal motor vehicle accident involving drivers who were impaired by drugs and alcohol. The goal of the exercise was the show students the potential consequences of drug use and underage drinking in an effort to encourage them to enjoy a safe prom. The Lawrenceville Farmers' Market, sponsored by Lawrenceville Main Street, kicked off its 2011 season on Saturday, June 4.  During  the summer, the market will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Lawrenceville Fuel at 16 Gordon Ave.
Lawrence Township's annual Memorial Day weekend parade was held on Saturday, May 28. Beginning at Lawrence High School, the parade made its way to Veteran's Park, where the township's annual memorial service was held. Click here to read a detailed account of the service. 
Laughter filled the air and smiles were in abundance at the Seventh Annual Spring Fling held on a recent Saturday afternoon on the grounds of the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.  The family-friendly outdoor carnival was co-hosted by the church and the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church Nursery School. There were pony rides, slides, a moon bounce, games, an art contest and other events for kids, as well as music, food and raffles for adults. Volunteer firefighters from Lawrence Road Fire Co. were on hand to show off one of their fire trucks and pass out plastic fire helmets to children. …
Rider University’s 146th Undergraduate Commencement took place this morning (Friday, May 13) on the campus in the 2000 block of Lawrence Road (Route 206). A total of 935 diplomas were passed out and Martin L. Perl, recipient of the 1995 Nobel Prize in physics, received an honorary doctorate in science. Last night, commencement ceremonies were held for Rider’s graduate program and College of Continuing Studies, with 543 diplomas awarded and an honorary Doctor of Laws presented to Sam A. Lawrenceville Main Street Artists Network hosted its second annual “Art Inspired by Poetry” reception and exhibit on Saturday, April 9, at the network’s art gallery at 2683 Main St. (Route 206 or Lawrence Road). In preparation for the event, over 15 local and regional poets submitted more than 30 original poems and the network’s 27 artists created works based those poems that inspired them. On Sunday, April 10, groups of Rider University students put their leadership and team-building skills to the test as they raced – in cardboard canoes of their own building – across the university’s Richard A. Coppola Pool. Tomorrow (Friday, April 8) and Saturday (April 9) will see the final two performances of the Saint Ann School Drama Club production of "Annie." Two shows were staged last weekend. Each performance features a different cast, making each show just a little bit different and worthy of seeing more than once. Two township police officers and 12 post members and volunteers were honored with awards during American Legion Post 414’s annual awards night held recently. During the event, Post 414 presented a check to the Sunshine Foundation to pay the cost of four seats for this year’s Operation Dreamlift, an annual event that flies over 100 chronically- and terminally-ill children to Florida for a day of fun at Disney World. On Sunday, March 13, Venture Crew 414 hosted an Indian Spring mini PowWow at American Legion Post 414 on Berwyn Place. The Native American Dance teams of Gold Feather and Cuwe joined together for a fun and entertaining afternoon that provided lessons about Native American dance.  Audience participation added to the excitement and pizza and dessert were served. Last week Lawrence Township's four elementary schools honored the late Theodor Seuss Geisel - Dr. Seuss - with guest readers, mass reading, costume contests, games, a production of “Seussical” and other celebrations. Well over 150 people packed the Commons of Lawrence High School on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 27, to attend the annual meeting of the Lawrence Historical Society. The meeting – which featured the swearing in of the society’s 2011 officers, as well as a cake celebrating the 314th birthday of Lawrence Township – was highlighted by an hour-long talk by township historian Dennis P. Waters about two trolley lines that operated in the township between 1899 and 1940. Relay for Life of Lawrence Township held a “Kick-off Celebration” in the Commons at Lawrence High School Wednesday evening, Feb. 23. A fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, the Relay for Life is described as “a life-changing event that brings community together with the common goal of eliminating cancer. [At the relay] teams of people take turns walking around a track – with every step, we are helping save lives.” The second annual Lawrence Township Relay for Life will be held at the high school from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 20. American Legion Post 414 was recognized for its more than 64 years of service to veterans of the United States’ armed forces, as well as to Lawrence Township, when members of the township council unveiled signs designating Berwyn Place as American Legion Way during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 15). While the official name of the street remains unchanged from Berwyn Place, the honorary name American Legion Way celebrates the accomplishments of Post 414, whose headquarters is located at 100 Berwyn Place.   The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs honored more than four dozen American heroes by presenting them each with a New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal during a ceremony held Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Center Court of Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrence Township. Honored were combat veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Police officers never quite know what the day ahead holds for them when they don their uniforms and report to work. The variety of situations they can find themselves in is enormous and can literally range from everyday, mundane tasks to chaotic situations that require split second life-and-death decisions.
