Registration is now underway for Lawrence Little League’s Spring 2013 baseball and softball seasons. Children who are between the ages of 6 and 12 (as of April 30, 2013) can sign up for baseball, while those who are between 6 and 12 (as of Dec. 31, 2012) are eligible for softball. Betty Leedom, who founded organized girls softball in Lawrence Township 56 years ago, will throw out the first pitch at a tournament that bears her name today, Thursday, July 12, at 6 p.m. at Colavita Field in Lawrence's Central Park athletic complex. In what has become their typical start for a game this summer, the 10-year-old Lawrence Township All Stars gave up two blooper singles to start off their game against Bordentown.  After a strikeout, Bordentown cleanup hitter Justin Smith powered a triple to right field and Bordentown jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  However, the boys in red quickly pulled themselves together to halt their opponents’ momentum.  The next batter laid down a bunt which resulted in Smith being caught in a run-…

The Lawrence Township 10-year-old All-Star Team held on to defeat HTRBA 12-9 on Sunday in the opening game of the Late 10's Tournament, hosted by Cranbury-Plainsboro Little League. Lawrence was led by a flawless day at the plate by Shea McGuire, who went 3-for-3 against HTRBA's pitching. He singled in the first and third innings, and doubled in the fourth inning, picking up an RBI and scoring three runs himself - including a steal of home. Alex Everman started the game on the mound …

The 10 year old Lawrence District All-Star Team won their second game of the Little League District 12 Tournament on Tuesday, defeating Ewing 20-9. It was not the kind of start to the game that Lawrence was looking for in this elimination game. Ewing jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead as the boys from Lawrence seemed to be back on their heels. Editor's Note: The following Lawrence Little League game highlights were submitted to Lawrenceville Patch by the coaches of the various teams.  The 10-year-old Lawrence District All-Star Team won their first game of the Little League District 12 Tournament on Saturday, defeating Cranbury-Plainsboro 15-10.  Leadoff batter Shea McGuire started the day off with a line-drive single and moved to second on Ean Dauer’s single.  Four batters later with the bases loaded Shea stole home – one of seven steals on the day for him – to score the first run.  And Lawrence never looked back.  Lawrence put up …

The Lawrence Township Junior Baseball/Softball Association held Opening Day festivities for Lawrence Little League Baseball, Little League Softball and Babe Ruth Baseball on Saturday, April 14, at Central Park on Eggerts Crossing Road. The morning featured a moving tribute to the late Dennis Norton, a longtime girl's softball coach, followed by a ceremony honoring the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Lawrence Little League All-Star Team. The group of 11- and 12-year-olds won six straight games to capture the state District 12 and Section 3 titles. Their bid to play in the Little League World …
