Event celebrates its 30th season.
When is a balloon festival not (just) a balloon festival? That’s a tough question, especially when a huge yearly event is billed as such (I mean, it's called the Festival of Ballooning, after all) and there certainly are plenty of hot-air balloons to be displayed. Still, the Quick Chek Festival of Ballooning — in its 30th year, running from July 27 through 29 at Solberg Airport in Readington — is also part amusement park, with a healthy number of rides, an arts-and-crafts emporium, a yoga and Zumba demonstration, and lots and lots of food. Of the 30 years, Quick Chek has been a major sponsor for 20. And for the first time, Patch is partnering with the festival to get you in at a great price. Between now and May 20, use this link to buy …

Gordon Lightfoot, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Michael Feinstein featured next weekend.
Great action, top notch actors, and a better Hulk make "The Avengers" a must-see for New Jersey comic fans.
Comic Relief, a comics shop in Mercer Mall, has been abuzz since Earth’s Mightiest Heroes descended on movie theaters last Friday, assembling masses of Marvel fans in New Jersey. Marvel’s The Avengers is a comic book lover’s dream: a feature length sci-fi/action/comedy with A-list actors portraying classic superheroes, directed by a super-capable fan, Joss Whedon. As of Monday, the film had grossed over $640 million worldwide since its May 4 release. Included in that sum is the $200 million take from its U.S. opening weekend- the biggest opening of all time. “I knew it would be big, but not Harry Potter big!” said Dale Lutz, manager of Comic Relief, and an employee of the store since 1988. At Sanctuary Comics on Easton Avenue in New …

The comedic show will run at the George Street Playhouse through May 20.
Many casts in live shows are referred to as ensemble, but every once in a while you get a show that demonstrates the true meaning of what an ensemble cast is capable of. "The 39 Steps" is that show. Directed by Mark Shanahan, the George Street Playhouse's final show of the season is the stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's famous 1935 film, which was adapted from a 1915 novel, both of the same name. Extremely fast paced and comedically over the top, the show tells the story of English chap Richard Hannay, played by Howard McGillin, who was previously seen at the Playhouse this season in the musical "It Shoulda Been You." Set in London in 1935, Hannay, morose and bored with his life, goes to the theater, where he encounters the mysterious…
