Wrestling: Trip to State Tournament in Atlantic City Can Only Help Build Experience for Gordon Wolf

Lawrence High School freshman makes first round exit from packed field.

There are wrestlers across the state who work their whole four year careers to make it to the state finals in Atlantic City, only to make it to Boardwalk Hall as a spectator.

Lawrence High School freshman Gordon Wolf made it as a freshman, and while his stay at the state finals did not last long, it is hard to argue that he will likely be back again.

On Friday, March 4, Wolf found himself in a stacked 112 weight class and squaring off against Jared Staub of Colonial Valley Conference rival Hamilton West. The two put on a very competitive match, but in the end it was Staub emerging with a 9-6 decision.

At the Region 7 tournament last weekend Wolf had finished second in the tournament while Staub had been the third place finisher, earning the last ticket to Boardwalk Hall.

The Hornet wrestler went on to represent the conference and the region well when he narrowly beat Billy Reardon of Don Bosco Prep in the pre-quarterfinals. He will now face Mike Magaldo of Watchung Hills who finished second at the Region 3 Tournament.
