A Lawrence High School student suffered only minor injuries when the sport utility vehicle in which he and a friend were traveling flipped onto its roof after it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Gedney Road and Fieldboro Drive in Lawrence Township late this morning (Thursday, Sept. 13).

Authorities said the accident, reported shortly before 11:25 a.m., involved a Ford Explorer occupied by the two male 17-year-old LHS students, who were believed to be on their lunch break, and a Mercedes driven by a 54-year-old woman.

All three are township residents, authorities said.

Township police officers, the township’s daytime duty crew of career firefighters, and a mutual aid ambulance from the City of Trenton responded to the crash scene and arrived to find that the two teenagers had already crawled out of the overturned vehicle on their own.

One of the boys complained of minor pain and was immobilized, placed on a backboard and transported by ambulance to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton as a precaution, authorities said.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Lawrence Township police and no other details were available at the time of this report.
