Rider Student Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident

Authorities allege that the vehicle being driven by 19-year-old Rider University student Laura Gallagher was one of two vehicles that struck and killed a 54-year-old man as he was crossing Parkside Avenue in Ewing Township last week.

Update, Nov. 7:

A Rider University student turned herself into authorities on Wednesday in connection with the hit-and-run death of a man in Ewing Township last week, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced today (Thursday, Nov. 3).

Laura Gallagher, 19, of Flanders, N.J., was charged with death by auto and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, both second-degree crimes, the prosecutor’s office said.

After surrendering to Ewing police and being processed Wednesday, Gallagher was lodged in the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell Township in lieu of $250,000 bail, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Authorities allege the vehicle being driven by Gallagher was one of two vehicles that fatally struck a 54-year-old Trenton man as he was walking across Parkside Avenue near Ives Avenue in Ewing just before 10:40 p.m. last Friday, Oct. 28.
