Nelle Evans - Whiz Kid of the Week
Welcome to Whiz Kids. Each week we will honor a great kid from Lawrence Township who is an inspiration to all of us, adults included.
- Nelle Evans
- 6th grader at Lawrence Intermediate School
- Souper Bowl of Caring Student Ambassador
This week Lawrenceville Patch honors Nelle Evans for her work as a student ambassador for the third annual Souper Bowl of Caring.
Nelle, 11, is a sixth grader and honor roll student at Lawrence Intermediate School. She became involved in the Souper Bowl of Caring in 2009 with her older sister, Mariefred, and has run the program locally by herself since 2010.
Through this food drive, Nelle urged her fellow students to consider their neighbors who go to bed hungry and think about local food pantries that have empty shelves. With posters and morning announcements, Nelle challenged her fellow students to "tackle hunger" by donating soup and other canned goods to Lawrence Community Center. Nearly 800 food items were delivered to the center last week.
In addition to her work with the Lawrence Community Center, Nelle is a figure skater, a gymnast, and a member of travelling teams for soccer and baseball. She is also a cadette girl scout and a member of 4-H. Recently, Nelle started the library at the Lawrence Nature Center by collecting and donating over 150 books. Nelle lives in Lawrence Towship with her mom, Pepper, and her sister, Mariefred.
