Original Post, 1:12 a.m. Jan 30:
A man had to be extricated from the wreckage of his car after the vehicle veered off an Interstate 95 exit ramp and crashed along Route 206 (Lawrence Road) late Tuesday night (Jan. 29).
Reported at about 11:40 p.m., the one-car accident drew responses from Lawrence Township police, Lawrence Township Emergency Medical Service, all three township volunteer fire companies (Slackwood, Lawrenceville, and Lawrence Road), Capital Health System paramedics and the New Jersey State Police.
Police said the man – tentatively identified as a 31-year-old resident of the Brandon Farms neighborhood in Hopewell Township – lost control of his car while negotiating the exit ramp from I-95 South to Route 206 North.
The car crossed the northbound lanes of Route 206 and entered the southbound side of the road where it came to rest on the sidewalk adjacent to the entrance ramp to I-95 South from Route 206 South.
Volunteer firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools to cut away the jammed driver’s door to extricate the man from the wreckage.
After being freed, the man was transported via ambulance to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Police said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Because the man lost control while on the I-95 exit ramp, the investigation into the cause of the accident was turned over to New Jersey State Police.
