Lawrence Honors Fallen Princeton Rescue Worker

Michael Kenwood from Princeton First Aid Squad died in the line of duty during Hurricane Irene.

Flags have been lowered to half staff at Lawrence Township firehouses in honor of the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad member who died in the line of duty during Hurricane Irene on Sunday, Aug. 29.

Michael Kenwood, an emergency medical technician and rescue technician with PFARS, was among the emergency personnel who responded to a "swift water rescue assignment" on Rosedale Road in Princeton Township about 4:40 a.m. on Sunday.

Kenwood was swept away by flood waters while he and another rescuer were trying to reach a stranded vehicle. He was critically injured and succumbed to those injuries late Sunday night at University Medical Center at Princeton.

Mercer County Central Communications, the county's fire and emergency dispatching center, Monday evening announced funeral details.

As part of that announcement, a county 911 dispatch supervisor noted: "Michael selflessly gave of himself that early morning so others may live. May Michael rest with in peace with the rest of our nation's fallen heroes."
