Girl Scout Leads Project to Renovate Safety Town

Editor's Note: The following is a news release issued by Lawrence-Ewing-Trenton Girl Scouts.

Catiee Macheda of Girl Scout Troop #71452 from Lawrence-Ewing-Trenton Girl Scouts recently presented her Girl Scout Gold Award Project to the staff and students of Lawrence Township's Safety Town 2012.

Catiee's project was a “Celebration of Historical Lawrence Township” at Safety Town.

is a pre-Kindergarten summer program where pre-K children spend two weeks learning and practicing safety in a town-like setting. The town was built for pre-K size people. Each house represents a historical building that Catiee researched and choose from the dozens of worthy buildings in the township.

With the help of an architect, contractors, artists, and fellow Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venture Crew Scouts, Catiee organized work groups of scouts, friends, and adults to gather supplies, cut, paint, detail, assemble, and ultimately construct and erect the new Historical Safety Town.

The new buildings replaced the aging Safety Town buildings with history, hard work, and love in each one, in addition to a brochure so families know why and what each house represents.

Catiee, a Senior Girl Scout completing her 10th year in girl scouting, is working to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award - the highest award in Girl Scouting.

She is also a member of Venture Crew #414 Lawrence Township, American Legion Junior Auxiliary, Lawrenceville Fire Company Cadets, and the Ewing Explosion Girls Travel Soccer Team.
