Firefighters from Lawrence and Princeton Attend to Another Large Mulch Fire at Twp. Ecological Center

The blaze on Jan. 29 was the third such fire at the Princeton Pike facility since Dec. 28.

Lawrence Township volunteer firefighters, assisted by members of the Princeton Fire Department, fought a fire in a large pile of mulch at Lawrence Township's Joseph H. Maher Jr. Ecological Center at 3701 Princeton Pike during the morning of Saturday,  Jan. 29.

The blaze was reported shortly before 10:10 a.m. Firefighters from the township's Lawrenceville, Slackwood and Lawrence Road fire companies responded and were assisted at the scene by the Princeton Fire Department.

Firefighters raised the ladder of Lawrenceville Fire Company's Telesquirt 23 truck and used a water cannon mounted at the tip of the ladder to pour water on the smoldering mulch. The water was supplied by a fire hydrant on the property.

This was at least the third such fire at the ecological center in the last month or so. Similar blazes occurred on Dec. 28, 2010, and Dec. 29, 2010.
