Salons Saving Our Shores (Salons S.O.S) is an initiative that unifies and mobilizes hair salons and spas to fundraise for the recovery and rebuilding efforts of New Jersey families devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
“After seeing such tragedy envelop my state, clients and neighbors, I could think of no better way to use my ‘gift’ of cutting hair than to raise money to help,” says Denise Taylor, founder of Salons S.O.S and co-owner of Great Looks multi-cultural hair salon in New Jersey’s Princeton area.
The group's first Fundraiser, A Gift of Hope, will take place on Dec. 23 at The Westin Princeton, 201 Village Blvd. in Plainsboro, N.J.
Twenty salons and spas in the tri-state area will gather to provide $30 haircuts, $25 styling, $15 chair massages, and $15 red clip-in hair extensions to signify the official color of Salons S.O.S.
There will be reaffle drawings and door prizes and t-shirts and lunch will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit One Simple Wish which is a Red Cross-recognized New Jersey non-profit organization; as well as the newly developed Restore Our Shore initiative. Both groups are directly aiding families in recovery efforts.
Salons and spas anywhere can participate remotely, and should visit www.salons-sos.org for more info.
